The GSRP Pre School Teacher is responsible for all aspects of planning, assessing and instructing four year old students, based on the needs of each child and the requirements of the GSRP grant. The GSRP Pre School Teacher is also responsible for maintaining program quality and documentation as outlined in the GSRP Implementation Manual, Preschool Program Quality Assessment (“PQA”) and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (“DHHS”) licensing guidelines.
1. Implement the assigned instructional activities and course of study to engage students in conductive learning.
2. Utilize instructional and classroom management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
3. Identify, select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
4. Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
5. Follow the daily schedule as outlined in the curriculum and GSRP guidelines.
6. Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of children and provide age-appropriate instructional support.
7. Meet with Early Childhood Specialist as needed to ensure quality programming and maintain a high-level PQA rating.
8. Attend staff meetings, workshops and other scheduled program activities as requested.
9. Consider the GSRP Paraprofessional or Associate Teacher an essential member of the teaching team.
10. Collaborate with the GSRP Paraprofessional or Associate Teacher in planning, team meetings, troubleshooting and decision-making.
11. Empower the GSRP Paraprofessional or Associate Teacher to monitor behavior and support the educational process in the classroom.
12. Participate in home visits with the GSRP Paraprofessional or Associate Teacher to partner with parents to meet the educational needs of their children.
13. Organize and maintain records for grant and licensing purposes.
14. Create and update anecdotal records and portfolios for each child.

1. Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching.
2. Shall possess a valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s) for all subject area(s) being taught; Early Childhood (ZA or ZS) endorsement.
3. Meet all requirements established by the DHHS.
4. Teaching experience with children, particularly with at-risk children.
5. Knowledge of standards of Quality for Pre-K (ECSQ-PK).
6. Certification in CPR and First Aid.
7. Knowledge of current research on early childhood literacy.
8. Knowledge of the Preschool PQA and its relationship to quality experiences for young children.
