Teachers are responsible for providing instructional activities and educational skills to students to help them achieve academic success. Help students understand potential for educational, physical, intellectual and psychological growth.

 

Available Positions

The Dearborn Academy, a K-8 Charter School located at 1930 Ford Rd. Dearborn, MI 48128, is seeking candidates for the following positions:

       

 

K-5 Teachers

     

Responsibilities

  •  Implement the assigned program of study.
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilize instructional and classroom management systems that increase learning and maximize time on task.
  • Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
  • Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Principal.

 

Qualification: Michigan Teaching Certificate with K-5 Endorsement

Middle School (Grade6-8) Math Teachers

       

Responsibilities

K-8 Special Education Teacher  

Special Education teachers are responsible for ensuring that student with special needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Development and implementation of IEPs.
  • Plan behavior management strategies for entire class and for individual students under his/her tutelage.
  • Assist individual students.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation and reports.
  • Implement the assigned program of study.
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilize instructional and classroom management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
  • Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of special education rules and regulations.
  • Develop daily individualized lesson plans.
  • Supervise, direct, and train all special education Para-professionals.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Principal.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Endorsement with a Special Education (Emotionally Impaired/ Autism/Cognitive Impairment/Learning Disabilities/ Physical Education for students with disabilities/ Speech and Language Impairment, and/or Visual Impairment)
  • Elementary/ Middle Level Teacher Certification
  • Two years of teaching experience in servicing children and adolescents and an ability to effectively interact  and collaborate with professionals, parents, and students.
  • Experience with elementary/middle programs dependent on area of assignment
  • Must meet NCLB Highly Qualified Criteria (Major in content area, or Minor and Passed MTTC exam)

K-8 Arabic Teacher

 

Responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Meet professional education requirements of school, district, or state.
  • Michigan teacher’s certification with FK endorsement or

Candidates that do not have teaching certificate must possess a Bachelor’s degree from approved regionally or nationally accredited teacher preparation institution to meet Highly Qualified requirement and/ or above qualifications to acquire emergency certification for the Arabic Language.  For permit renewal, Arabic teachers must have completed some courses towards the MDE requirement for teaching Arabic. Candidate must complete six semester hours of satisfactory credit in a certification program before the school can apply for a permit.  The institutions approved to offer the Arabic certification program are: Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Wayne State University, and Western Michigan University.

K-8 Spanish Teacher

The Dearborn Academy, a K-8 Charter School located at 1930 Ford Rd. Dearborn, MI 48128, is seeking certified Spanish Teachers. The Dearborn Academy’s mission is to serve a multicultural community through individualized, focused instruction allowing each student to achieve academic excellence and exhibit social responsibility.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implement the assigned instructional activities and course of study to engage students in conductive learning.
  • Utilize instructional and classroom management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
  • Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Meet professional responsibilities.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  • Promote and maintain positive school-staff and pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Principal.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree with a State of Michigan Teacher Certification  with FF endorsement  (or)
  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Spanish (If no Teaching Certificate: Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s/ Master's Degree in Spanish from approved regionally or nationally accredited teacher preparation institution to meet Highly Qualified requirement and/or above qualifications to acquire emergency certification for the Spanish Language. Candidate must have a passing score in the MTTC test for the specific instructional role. If the candidate intends to continue working in instructional role for the following school year, candidate will need to complete six semester hours of satisfactory credit in a certification program before the school can apply for a permit renewal the following fall)
  • Meet professional education requirements of school, district, state
     Relevant teaching experience
     Candidate must be Highly Qualified and dedicated to bringing their students the highest quality instruction
     Knowledge of relevant technology
     Knowledge of the developmental needs of children and school improvement strategies, a definite plus
     Ability to effectively interact with professionals, parents, and students

Administrator for Student Discipline

 

The Academy Administrator for Student Discipline serves with the Principal to ensure the safety and security of all students and to provide direction to the co-curricular and extracurricular programs including athletics.

 

 

Position-Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop, direct, and monitor all student activities and athletics programs including scheduling of all events

  • Supervise and evaluate Teachers and other assigned support staff

  • Design and administer student discipline procedures to create a safe and orderly teaching and learning environment. Develop the student handbook for staff and parents

  • Administer the preparation and issuance of student report cards, student records, student transcripts at graduation, and the preparation and guidance of graduation ceremonies

  • Prepare and submit State Mandated reports as needed

  • Collaborate with the Principal, the administrative team, and the professional staff in the design and implementation of Strategic Improvement Plans for the Academy.

  • Assist the Principal in the design, delivery, and evaluation of ongoing professional development for the staff

  • Develop effective oral and written communications for the staff, the administrative, the Board of Directors, the authorizing agency, State officials, and parents regarding student disciplinary and attendance records and safety concerns

  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Principal and as defined in the job description

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; master’s degree in education preferred

  • Four years administrative experience

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate

  • Must comply with all applicable law related to the Administrator’s certificate

  • Must meet continuing education requirements as prescribed by rules promulgated by the State of Michigan, as applicable
